The true story of the Afghanistan Youth Women’s National Soccer Team’s escape after the fall of Kabul.
After the US withdrawal and the fall of Kabul to the Taliban, the Afghanistan Youth Women’s National Soccer Team and their families embarked on a harrowing journey out of the country, leaving behind all that they knew. The team relied on WhatsApp to communicate securely as they risked everything to escape.
Even/Odd worked closely with director Amber Fares and the Modern Arts team for nearly two months to craft the 28-minute film based on hours of harrowing interviews and news coverage. WhatsApp was key in the team’s escape, and we developed an approach to UI animation that underscored the app's critical role in their journey.
The power of this story of resilience and hope was recognized by audiences and industry colleagues, bringing home awards, including the Cannes Grands Prix and two Cannes Gold Lions for Entertainment.
