David Camarena is a Mexican-American Director and Photographer from Northern California.
David’s singular perspective is inspired by years of documentation, candid moments, and deep views into the landscape of Latinidad communities in both California and Mexico. His experience working across live-action, still photography, animation, and music videos have lended him a truly distinct style as a filmmaker, cohered by his sense for story. He’s directed for brands like Nike, Foot Locker, Hat Club, Kids of Immigrants, and Adidas, and seen his work featured in outlets like Rolling Stone, Vogue, Hypebeast, and Pitchfork.
His latest personal project is a documentary about the Sirkane Darkroom, a one-of-a-kind mobile photography workshop for underprivileged children in southeast Turkey. The kids — mostly refugees — capture their own experiences and with David’s guidance construct a new visual language to define their narratives, much like David did himself.
